HANOI: Forty-seven tigers, three lions and a panther have died in zoos in South Vietnam as a result of H5N1 avian influenza virus, state media reported on Wednesday (October 2).
The deaths occurred between August and September on the non-public My Quynh safari park in Long An province and Vuon Xoai zoo in Dong Nai, close to Ho Chi Minh City, the official Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported.
According to check outcomes from the National Center for Animal Health Diagnosis, the animals died “as a result of H5N1 sort A virus,” VNA reported.
The zoos declined to remark when contacted by AFP.
