A big demonstration in Bangladesh warns allies of the deposed prime minister that they plan a comeback

DHAKA: Allies of ousted Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had been working to weaken the interim authorities that changed her regime, two of her major opponents warned on Friday (Nov 8) at a big rally within the capital Dhaka.

Hasina, 77, fled by helicopter to neighboring India in August when a student-led rebellion noticed protesters flood the streets of the capital Dhaka, bringing a dramatic finish to her iron-fisted tenure.

Since then, an interim authorities led by Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus has taken cost, tasked with implementing far-reaching democratic reforms and holding new elections.

Hundreds of hundreds of individuals attended Friday’s rally, one of many largest since Hasina’s fall, organized by her longtime opponents from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

“We have gathered right here to guard folks’s voting rights and to stop the re-emergence of fascists,” Tarique Rahman, the exiled vp of the BNP, informed attendees through video hyperlink from his dwelling in London.

“Sheikh Hasina has fled, however the conspiracy continues,” BNP basic secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir informed the rally.
