Russian state newspaper Izvestia says one in every of its freelance reporters has been killed in a drone strike close to the Russian-occupied metropolis of Donetsk in jap Ukraine.
Moscow accused the Ukrainian military of intentionally focusing on Alexander Martemyanov. Ukraine didn’t remark.
Izvestia mentioned a civilian car carrying Martemyanov was hit whereas touring on a freeway in a Russian-occupied space.
Five different media staff have been reportedly injured in the identical assault.
“The Ukrainian military launched a drone assault on a civilian automotive carrying Izvestia freelance correspondent Alexander Martemyanov,” the information outlet reported on its Telegram channel.
“The automotive was removed from the contact line.”
The car was coming back from shelling within the Russian-held city of Gorlivka when it was hit, Russia’s state information company RIA mentioned.
Two RIA journalists have been injured within the assault, the company added.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova known as the incident “deliberate homicide.”
In an announcement, he described the incident as “one other brutal crime in a sequence of bloody atrocities” perpetrated by the federal government of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The EU blocked Russian media shops – together with Izvestia and RIA – in May, accusing them of permitting “the unfold and help of Russian propaganda and the struggle of aggression towards Ukraine”.
The Committee to Protect Journalists says at the least 15 journalists have been killed since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
