A Butler Area School District police officer is being acknowledged for going above and past.

On Friday, state and federal officers celebrated Broad Street Elementary School Police Officer James Green, also referred to as “Officer Jim.”

Green was chosen as a recipient of the distinguished Recognizing Inspiring School Employees (RISE) award. The award given by the U.S. Department of Education honors those that play an important position in pupil well-being, security and success.

A faculty spokesperson says Green, a retired police officer, is a mum or dad volunteer who began at Broad Street in 2021 and is aware of his job is to maintain kids protected.

Green is understood for a lot of issues in elementary faculty, reminiscent of fist bumps, customized cartoons or a group to assist the native Humane Society.

“As a faculty police officer, he goes above and past to function a father determine, mentor and protector,” Gov. Josh Shapiro mentioned in a press release. “His unwavering dedication to the well-being of the scholars of Broad Street Elementary School, his selfless service to the group, and his day by day instance of integrity and care make him a real hero to the scholars of Pennsylvania. Officer Green embodies the most effective of what it means to serve and encourage, and on behalf of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, I’m proud that he has been acknowledged as some of the excellent faculty workers nationwide.”
