At least six Palestinians have been killed and 35 wounded by Israeli safety forces after launching a serious operation in Jenin within the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Health Ministry says.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated Israel’s military, police and Shin Bet safety service had launched a “giant and vital” operation to “eradicate terrorism” in Jenin.
Palestinian media reported that Israeli navy automobiles entered Jenin and its refugee camp on Tuesday morning following a number of drone strikes.
The operation comes after a weeks-long operation by Palestinian safety forces in opposition to armed teams, together with Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, which they see as a problem to their authority.
An announcement from the Israeli prime minister stated the operation was “one other step in direction of attaining our aim of strengthening safety” within the West Bank.
“We are working systematically and decisively in opposition to the Iranian axis wherever it sends its weapons: in Gaza, in Lebanon, in Syria, in Yemen and within the West Bank,” he added.
An Israeli navy assertion stated the operation is known as “Iron Wall” and that it’ll proceed “so long as needed.”
Jenin governor Kamal Abu al-Rub informed the AFP information company that “what is occurring is an invasion of the camp.”
“It got here shortly, Apache (helicopters) within the sky and Israeli navy automobiles in every single place,” he added.
There has been a spike in violence within the West Bank following Hamas’ lethal assault on Israel on October 7, 2023 and the following conflict in Gaza.
Hundreds of Palestinians have been killed as Israeli forces stepped up their raids, saying they’re making an attempt to stem lethal Palestinian assaults on Israelis within the West Bank and Israel.
Israel has constructed round 160 settlements housing round 700,000 Jews because it occupied the West Bank within the 1967 Middle East conflict. The settlements are thought of unlawful beneath worldwide legislation, though Israel disputes this.
