State’s Attorney-elect Eileen O’Neill Burke will serve on the transition workforce

With lower than 20 days till she was sworn in, Democratic State Attorney-elect Eileen O’Neill Burke started turning to outsiders for her transition workforce.

For now, O’Neill Burke introduced in an announcement Thursday morning, it has solely three members: former U.S. Secretary of Education and former CPS CEO Arne Duncan, third Ward Ald. Pat Dowell and SEIU Illinois State Council Executive Director Anthony Driver.

That workforce “will evaluation present operations, interact with the neighborhood and stakeholders, and supply suggestions to extend public security, guarantee equity, and strengthen operations inside our prison justice system,” the discharge reads.

Duncan is the CEO of Chicago CRED, a gun violence discount group. Driver can be the chair of town’s Community Safety and Accountability Commission, which helps oversee and develop coverage for the Chicago Police Department.

Dowell, whose ward covers a lot of the Bronzeville neighborhood, can be the chairman of town council’s finance committee. He endorsed O’Neill Burke early within the marketing campaign, considered one of a number of native officers who broke with the Cook County Democratic Party, which supported O’Neill Burke’s main opponent, Clayton Harris III.

O’Neill Burke would win the first by a slim majority of votes, then handily defeat Republican Bob Fioretti within the normal election with about 67% of the vote, based on unofficial totals. His swearing-in – and outgoing prosecutor Kim Foxx’s final day – is scheduled for December 2.

“As I stated on election evening, one of the best ways to foretell the longer term is to create it,” O’Neill Burke stated within the launch. “Under the management of Councilor Pat Dowell, Anthony Driver and Arne Duncan, we’ll start to implement our dedication to victims and the regulation, a forward-looking imaginative and prescient for prison justice and a promise to work along with all stakeholders for a stronger prison justice. , a safer future in each single Cook County neighborhood.”

The transition workforce will ultimately embody subcommittees on decreasing gun violence, public corruption and sentencing integrity.
